Broker's Comments

Over the years John Leather designed many craft, mostly small carvel- or clinker- built gaffers. The apogee of John’s career was as the Technical Secretary of the Royal Institute of Naval Architects (RINA) – a role he held from 1979 until his retirement in 1994. One of his jobs at RINA was to stage international technical conferences on subjects concerning warships, merchant ships, propulsion, offshore engineering and small craft.

May Blossom Clinker built in 1964 by Patten Bros.,Althorne, Essex in iroko on oak ribs with a mahogany superstructure. This is the ultimate pocket cruiser that sleeps two on full length berths with plenty of storage.
Fitted galley with gas hob and grill, sink, worktop and storage. Chart table with sea toilet under. In recent years used to cruise Devon and Cornwall. Taken part in Brixham Heritage Regatta, OGA SW events, Plymouth & Fowey Classics. A pretty well designed boat to be seen in. Lifting keel means that she has also explored the upper reaches of the Exe, Dart and Tamar. Fitted with a Tohatsu 9.8hp out board motor and currently lying in Brixham
Design featured in John Leather’s book Wooden Boat Building with copies of the original working drawings available. A full history of the class and Mayblossom in particular are available from the owner.
Last dry survey 2013, OGA boat number 86 and national small boats register number 2736.

A really beautiful little classic that will be a joy to own.
