Swim Free, the newly launched swimming programme for Naval families from Greenwich Hospital and the Andrew Simpson Foundation, has signed up Swim Devon as a delivery partner. Swim Devon will provide 3000 swimming lessons to over 300 children and young people from serving naval families in the south-west area.

Onboarding with Swim Free as the first delivery partner, Swim Devon provides a wealth of experience delivering fun and engaging lessons to swimmers of varied ages and abilities. The lessons, which will initially run out of the Commando Training Centre Royal Marines (CTCRM) Lympstone, will support children from serving Royal Navy and Royal Marines families.

Swim Devon will run regular weekly swimming lessons as well as bespoke classes for children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities. Lessons will begin from 19 November with each young person having a 10-lesson-block helping them to increase their water confidence and improve their swimming ability.

Richard Hall, Royal Marines Sports Association Operations Warrant Officer, said: “The Royal Marines Sport Association recognise the importance of swimming opportunities for the Royal Naval community and welcomes the Swim Free programme. By offering families a safe, supportive space to learn, bond and enjoy the water, we not only provide a vital skill but also a sense of community and wellbeing.”

Greenwich Hospital funds the Swim Free programme, which is delivered through the Andrew Simpson Foundation (ASF).

Josh Atherton, ASF’s Development Project Manager said: “The ASF is delighted to have established a partnership with Swim Devon, enabling families in the southwest to access the Swim Free programme and the benefits it has to bring the Royal Navy community.”
