British crew member found dead on superyacht after being ‘electrocuted’
A British man has reportedly died after being electrocuted aboard a luxury yacht while fixing a power outage that occurred off the Caribbean island of Antigua.
The 62m superyacht Baton Rouge was docked at English Harbour when it suffered a power outage in the engine room.
Chief engineer Roy Temme, 47, went to fix the problem and was later found unconscious by a crew member at around 8.30am local time on Friday (23 February 2024), according to local media reports.
The Antigua Observer says that the Antigua and Barbuda Search and Rescue team swiftly arrived on the scene, and transported Temme to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Preliminary investigations suggest Temme, a father-of-two from Southampton, died of electrocution.
It’s understood UK-flagged Baton Rouge had been moored at the southern town of English Harbour since late January. The vessel, launched by Icon Yachts in 2010, is Lloyd’s registered.
A friend, Oliver Boghurst, has launched a crowdfunding page to provide swift financial support to Temme’s family.

Speaking to British news outlet the Mirror, a spokesperson for the Marine Accident Investigation Branch (MAIB) said: “The Marine Accident Investigation Branch has been notified of an accident involving the Isle of Man registered large yacht Baton Rouge. Acting on behalf of the Isle of Man registry, the MAIB has sent a team of inspectors to Antigua to gather evidence and examine the vessel.”
