Brunswick Corporation has partnered with Apex.AI, a specialist in embedded software technology and middleware solutions.

The collaboration will integrate the company’s Apex.Grace and Apex.Ida products with Brunswick’s continued advancements in its autonomous solutions ecosystem as part of its ACES (Autonomy, Connectivity, Electrification, Shared Access) strategy.

Brunswick says the software from Apex.AI will support the integration of these systems in vessels equipped with autonomous technology and improve the boating experience across a range of applications.

Apex.AI’s software bundle Apex.OS includes Apex.Grace — a safety-certified software development kit for mobility, smart machines and IoT; and Apex.Ida, described as ‘safe and secure high-performance data transport.’

Brunswick says the software offered by Apex.AI supports the corporation’s plans to commercialise autonomous solutions in 2025.

Earlier this month, Brunswick reported its earnings for the fourth quarter, and full year, of 2023. Despite a challenging market environment, its achieved the second-highest sales in its history.

Brunswick isn’t the only firm focusing on autonomous solutions. In January, South Korean technology firm Avikus and US boatbuilder AquaSport Boats announced a new collaboration to integrate Avikus’ AI tech into boat models under the Twin Vee, Forza and AquaSport brands.

Electric propulsion specialist Torqeedo is also participating in a Smart & Green Ship joint research project at the University of Duisburg-Essen (UDE) and the Development Centre for Ship Technology and Transport Systems (DST) in Germany.

The project aims to advance fully autonomous navigation in inland waterways by researching various combinations of automation and emission-free drive systems.
