Italian shipyard Castagnola Yacht has completed the refit of the 38-metre motoryacht Angra entirely with West System epoxy. 

The yacht features a triple-planked design with added fibreglass for increased resistance and waterproofing. Fully loaded, the yacht displaces 180 tonnes. 

Founded in 1974 in Lavagna, Castagnola Yacht has built a reputation for custom-made wooden boasts. Gabriele Meastri, nephew of founder Giovanni Castagnola, now leads the company, blending traditional techniques with modern approaches. 

Wessex Resins and Adhesives manufacture the West System epoxy. Sam Oliver, operations director at Wessex Resins, says: “We truly appreciate our longstanding partnership between Castagnola Yacht and our exclusive distributor in Italy, WS Marine.

“West System epoxy is well-regarded in the marine industry for its ability to enhance strength and durability.” This durability factor was highlighted in a news story last year when a boat with West System epoxy was retrieved in good condition after eight years of being submerged.

Andrea Borzelli, Sara Berta, and Giovanni Castagnola designed the Angra’s interior and exterior. The vessel uses waterjet propulsion, achieving a cruising speed of 28 knots and a maximum speed of 31 knots. Giovanni Castagnola and Francesco Rogantin’s team engineered the hull. 

The West System epoxy, supplied by Italian distributor WSMarine, was used throughout the construction. Representing the distributor, Massimo Benincasa states: “WS Marine and Castagnola Yacht have enjoyed a successful partnership for many years.
