EU launches consultation on simplifying boater licences
The European Commission has launched an investigation into the issue of private boater licence recognition, which is currently a patchwork of different rules.
The European Boating Industry (EBI), which represents the recreational boating industry in Europe, says data from boaters and the industry is being requested to achieve a system where private boater licences can be easily transferred and used across the EU, as is the case with car driving licences.
It’s hoped this will make boating more attractive and allow boaters to move across Europe easier.
The primary objective of the EU Commission study is to investigate the advantages and drawbacks of recognising licences and qualifications for private boaters in the EU.
The industry survey is available in English, while the general public one is available in English, Italian, Greek, Spanish, Portuguese, German, French, Dutch and Polish.
The deadline is the end of April 2024. The industry survey and general public survey are both available online now.
