Expedition Zero, which is looking to significantly reduce the environmental footprint of adventure sailing, has welcomed Andy Hindley to its advisory board as a new technical advisor.

Bringing decades of expertise in building high-performing global sailing businesses, Hindley’s career includes roles as COO of the America’s Cup, CFO of Ben Ainslie Racing, and race director for the Volvo Ocean Race. His wealth of strategic knowledge and industry experience is expected to play a role in driving forward Expedition Zero’s vision to create fully recyclable, fossil fuel-free adventure sailing yachts.

Expedition Zero officially launched at boot Düsseldorf in January this year.

“All through my life I’ve pushed the envelope in one way or another,” says Hindley. “The only ever Duke of Edinburgh Gold expedition on the open sea, sailing the wrong way round the world, Team Philips, Volvo Ocean Race in state-of-the-art swing keel yachts, America’s Cup in multihulls, pioneering British America’s Cup team – they were all challenges and adventures in the art of the possible. And that is what Expedition Zero is; an opportunity to do something revolutionary. That is what attracted me, and motivates me to help the team achieve the goal.”

When asked about his priorities in the coming weeks, Hindley is clear: “Firstly, I will be helping the team secure the required investment that will close the current seed round, which we expect to do in the next few weeks. With the seed round closed, focus will move to preparing the team for scaling and delivering the high-level performance investors will expect. As we progress, I am keen to deep dive into the technology to ensure scaling is efficient. Also, we will be considering and filtering future opportunities, allowing the team to focus on the immediate needs of the business and not get distracted in the short to medium term.”

Hindley continues: “It’s going to be a busy few months ahead, but the momentum the team has created is fantastic, and I am excited to bring my support and experience to accelerate things further.”

Expedition Zero’s leadership team combines a broad range of exceptional experience: Andrew Cowen (CEO), Jim Dobie (chief operating officer), Richard Wilson (chairperson) and Innovation Yachts (led by Norbert Sedlacek Koch), alongside Aly Rahimtoola and Andy Hindley as advisory board members.

Andrew Cowen, CEO of Expedition Zero, says: “Having someone of Andy’s calibre join us is hugely exciting. His technical and business experience will further strengthen our board and accelerate our journey to build Expedition Zero into a champion for sustainable ocean adventure.”

Expedition Zero says it presents a compelling opportunity for investors to help redefine the future of sustainable marine exploration.
