Four step solution to boarding superyachts

Boarding superyachts just got a little easier thanks to Shipyard Supply Co’s (SSCo) modular four step dock steps . . . which can also be two steps when needed. Flexibility is key when crew’s need to quickly adjust to different dock conditions, says SSCo.
According to the company, the steps are a robust and practical boarding solution designed specifically for operating in marinas to take account of varying heights of docks (in 2023, the company launched a line of carbon mooring whips).
“We designed the modular dock steps to be more than just a temporary fix for varying dock heights,” says Richard Clements, the company’s technical manager. “They’re built to be a go-to solution that crews can rely on for safety, ease of use, and long-term durability. Their flexibility, built-in storage, and rugged construction offer an ideal balance between convenience and performance.”
Clements says the modular dock steps were developed in response to a client request for both two-step and four-step options to accommodate marinas with varying dock heights.
The height difference could be minimal at one point and significant at another, making a single fixed-step solution impractical. Crew and guests often found themselves struggling to step up or down safely, especially when carrying provisions or equipment.
Rather than offering two separate products, the team designed a flexible, modular solution. This design allows a two-step unit to seamlessly convert into a four-step with a secure connecting system, ensuring adaptability for different docking environments. By providing a stable, durable, and easily adjustable solution, these steps simplify boarding and disembarking while reducing the need for multiple step variations, making them a practical choice for guests and crew.
The steps’ modular construction means the units can lock together securely, allowing various boarding heights. There’s a stainless-steel handrail for stability and as they’re made from either carbon fibre or fibreglass, the steps are lightweight.
Clements says the steps are a ‘practical asset’ as they’re easy to dismantle, and have built-in storage within the steps to provide for mooring gear, dock lines, or cleaning supplies.
