ICOMIA confirms new Boating Industry Conference
The International Council of Marine Industry Associations (ICOMIA) and the Singapore Boating Industry Association have revealed details of the inaugural ICOMIA Boating Industry Conference.
The first edition of the ICOMIA Boating Industry Conference will take place at One°15 Marina, Sentosa Cove, Singapore, on 23 and 24 April 2024, in conjunction with the Singapore Yachting Festival.
Key themes of the conference are sustainability and the decarbonisation of the recreational marine industry, with ICOMIA’s ongoing Propelling Our Future campaign shaping much of the dialogue.
ICOMIA decarbonisation research
The keynote speaker, ICOMIA president Darren Vaux, will present ICOMIA’s landmark research Pathways into Propulsion Decarbonisation in the Recreational Marine Industry at the conference.
The decarbonisation report, which was first launched at METSTRADE in November 2023, reveals that due to the unique on-water environment for recreational boating, and the varied interests of boaters and the experiences they seek, a variety of solutions must be considered to continue reducing carbon emissions from recreational boats.
The conference programme will include presentations on the latest research and innovation across the various aspects of the industry, from propulsion systems to infrastructure development. In addition, panel discussions will engage on the potential and development of Asia’s growing markets and industry-driven efforts to grow boating.
Vaux will be joined by ICOMIA CEO Joe Lynch, who says he is keen to support further industry engagement with the vital markets of Singapore, Southeast Asia and other regions across Asia.
Lynch says: “We have renewed our focus on supporting the leisure boating industry in Asia, with the appointment of our new regional representative Su Lin Cheah who is based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. It’s great to see this conference come to fruition as a result, alongside the proactive engagement of SBIA. We see this as an excellent opportunity to provide support and engage with such a vibrant market.”
Organisers of the second annual Singapore Yachting Festival have confirmed a lineup of over 70 yachts for 2024; a 45 per cent increase compared to last year’s edition.
ICOMIA says it will draw on its global network of industry experts and thought leaders to create a dynamic programme that will stimulate discussion and creative ideation.
