IYBA launches Yachtr, a new yacht brokerage platform
The International Yacht Brokers Association (IYBA), representing over 2,000 yacht members globally, has launched Yachtr.com, a marketplace designed as a comprehensive yacht and boat listing database accessible to consumers.
Yachtr, which is powered by Yachtbroker.org, offers brokers a new platform to list their yachts, while potential buyers can explore an extensive selection of yachts and boats worldwide. Yachtr has been developed over several years with the support of industry associations and led by IYBA, and the platform aims to streamline the buying and selling experience for both brokers and customers.
IYBA says Yachtr has already registered more than 14,000 listings from 285 yacht brokerages, with the list continuing to grow daily.
On Yachtr.com, users can search verified listings by type, including motor yachts, cruisers, fishing or sailboats, or by broker and yacht manufacturer. The platform also features a blog called From The Bridge, featuring educational articles on marine topics. Sellers can connect with professional brokers by searching brokers by name, city or zip code/post code.
“Yachtr is taking control from private enterprise solutions and putting it back in the hands of the community,” says Paul Flannery, chief operating officer at IYBA. “We have heard concerns from our members, and we believe that Yachtr addresses and solves the challenges that current listing sites present.
“We want to provide a platform that is accessible to all, and inherently fair in its approach to displaying listings. Yachtr is and always will be an industry resource, meant to better serve our community and the needs of the boat buying and selling public. We firmly believe that if the industry can be able to control their data that they will then be able to control their destiny and provide an enhanced consumer experience. Help us spread the word about a better way to buy and sell yachts where you’re always in control of your data.”
The IYBA, established in 1987 and formerly known as the Florida Yacht Brokers Association, advocates for professional standards and ethical practices in yacht transactions.
In March this year, a lawsuit alleged that brokers across the US were charging ‘inflated’ sales commissions that fleece boat sellers.
The case was filed against several companies and major industry players, including the International Yacht Brokers Association; Boats Group LLC, operator of Boat Trader, Yacht World and Boats.com; Denison Yacht Sales; Allied Marine; United Yacht Sales; MarineMax; and Northrop & Johnson Yacht Ships. The majority of defendants are headquartered in Florida.
