Lagoon ends partnership with Simpson Marine in Asia
Catamaran manufacturer Lagoon has announced the conclusion of its longstanding partnership with Simpson Marine, a yacht dealership in Asia.
After 37 years of collaboration across seven countries of Asia, Lagoon and Simpson Marine say they have reached a mutual decision to part ways following the recent acquisition of the dealership by Sanlorenzo.
During the four-decade partnership, Simpson Marine — founded in 1984 in Hong Kong — has sold over 300 Lagoon catamarans in Asia.
“Lagoon and Simpson Marine have been the pioneers of the leisure boating industry in Asia,” says Thomas Gailly, director at Lagoon, which is a Beneteau Group brand and is marking its 40th anniversary this year.
“We have been together through good and bad, so there is a lot of emotion going into this separation. It was a real pleasure collaborating for all these years, and we wish Mike Simpson a very well-deserved retirement.”
Looking to the future, Lagoon has appointed Hong Kong-based Asiamarine as its new dealership in Hong Kong, Thailand and Singapore.
Richard Allen, group general manager at Simpson Marine, says: “It is with a heavy heart that we stop the decades-long collaboration with Lagoon. [It’s] a strategic decision that follows Simpson Marine’s acquisition by Sanlorenzo SPA and subsequent retirement from the business of the company’s founder, Mike Simpson.
“It has been a pleasure to represent this world-leading brand with its Asia expansion and we have thoroughly enjoyed every single moment of it. We are now committed to ensure a smooth transition and will continue to provide assistance to our Lagoon owners as per our customer promise.”
For existing clients and enthusiasts, Lagoon, Simpson Marine and Asiamarine say they are working together to ensure a ‘smooth transition’ of support and service.
