MariTrace to launch new superyacht tracking system
MariTrace is set to launch its latest product, Mercury, at this year’s Superyacht Technology Show. And when it does? It says it’ll be setting new and improved standards for tracking devices.
This secure system show’s a vessel’s position in the MariTrace interface, even when AIS data transmissions are unavailable. It detects loss of connectivity and also caches the vessel’s position in the event of an internet drop, which will be transmitted to the MariTrace interface upon reconnection.
“Our users consider MariTrace to be the natural choice for vessel-tracking,” says MariTrace CEO, Thomas Owen, “from assessing risk to understanding supply and demand, our interactive platform and industry-leading developments empower the smartest decisions for safety at sea in high-risk areas.”
The company says Mercury has the ability to surpass AIS tracking for vessels. It’s transmission provides a GPS position once per minute as default. The frequency can be increased as required. Mercury caches data on the hardware, for automatic and on-demand download and gives customers the option to share the vessel’s positions with other authorised MariTrace users, such as a vessel insurer or security team. Plus, there is no requirement to install additional hardware, such as a marine antenna.
MariTrace says it monitors hundreds of thousands of vessels worldwide – from tugs and tankers to yachts and cruise ships – and generates over 4 million data points hourly.
Earlier this year, MIN reported the recovery of a stolen 34 Regulator tender off St. Martin within six hours of its theft. The boat, ironically named Can’t Touch This, was fitted with NavTracker security systems from Global Ocean Security Technologies.
The Superyacht Technology Show takes place in Barcelona, 20 – 21 March 2024.
