More boat storage and space for manufacturing and sales – that’s MDL Marinas’ plan for its recently acquired 3.2-acre plot at Lower William Street. The marina chain is expanding Shamrock Quay marina in Southampton. This comes after the company recently announced an influx of superyachts following Brexit.

Tim Mayer, MDL’s sales and marketing director, says the company is dedicated to providing the best facilities for boat owners, and the site is particularly useful during the winter months when secure storage is in high demand. The boat storage area is now prepared to welcome customers and visitors for the marina’s winter boatyard services.

“We’re thrilled to support our customers with enhanced storage solutions and fantastic winter offers,” Mayer says, “not just at Shamrock Quay but across several of our premium marinas.”

Millstone Point – as the area is to be known – provides much-needed space to accommodate the growing demand for secure boat storage. The expanded storage area has been enhanced with additional CCTV cameras, as well as new power and water outlets. It incorporates a large building with offices, which MDL plans to rent out to potential tenants looking for office space in a marina. MDL says the new units will be available for rent at the start of next season, around April.

The site offers deep-water access, and an upgraded pontoon has also been installed, which can now accommodate 50-metre yachts – further expanding MDL’s superyacht offer.

“This acquisition marks a significant step in our growth strategy, enabling us to enhance operations at both Shamrock Quay and nearby Saxon Wharf,” Mayer tells MIN. “We anticipate opportunities to broaden our dry stack services over time.”

Mayer adds: “This investment not only boosts our storage capacity at Shamrock Quay but also opens the door for more customers to enjoy our services. With the addition of new units, we can offer a wider range of services to berth holders and visitors, ensuring an exceptional experience in collaboration with other marine businesses.

“Our team is excited about this addition, as it opens up new opportunities for enhancing our services and improving customer experiences,” he continues. “Barry Radband, our experienced manager, is eager to oversee the site and ensure its continued success.”

To complement its expansion, MDL Marinas has launched a slew of winter offers at Shamrock Quay (and in other marinas, too) – full details are on its website.

Running from 1 October 2024 to 31 March 2025, visitors and berth holders can grab discounts on berthing and boatyard services, with savings of up to 40 per cent on winter berthing and up to 45 per cent on maintenance services (including lifting, scrubbing and relaunching).
