A new national Fishing Championship was officially launched to much acclaim at the BoatLife show last month.

The inaugural BoatLife Fishing Championship is a dynamic catch and release boat angling competition challenging businesses and brands to enter not just for UK Champion status, but to showcase their products, promote their campaigns and to support growth for the recreational fishing and leisure marine sectors.

The Championship will be taking place across four venues throughout the UK during 2024 and will also feature a Privateers Championship Cup for local anglers to compete in at each stage. There will be exclusive trophies for the pro and Privateer teams to vie for as well as some impressive prizes for them to catch. More details of the prizes on offer will be released imminently along with the competition rules.

The four stages of the competition will be held in Conwy (Wales) 17-19 May, Cowes (Isle of Wight) 12–14 July, Plymouth (Devon) 4-6 October and St Peter’s Port (Guernsey) 14-17 November. Each stage will consist of three days of fishing fun across each weekend, with Friday being a free practice day followed by two separate competition rounds on the Saturday and Sunday.

Each stage location and the timings have been carefully considered for weather conditions and species availability as well as provision of shoreside facilities. The four base marinas are Boatfolk Conwy, Cowes Yacht Haven, MDL’s QAB Plymouth, and Victoria Marina Guernsey.

In addition, there will also be an array of onshore exhibits and activities such as presentation stages, an education and awareness zone and an interactive zone to give the event a real festival feel. There will also be a wide variety of activities taking place at each venue.

The BoatLife Fishing Championship is being organised in close collaboration with the Inshore Fisheries and Conservation Authorities and it will have fish welfare, marine conservation, sustainability and general best practice high on the agenda. In addition, there will be ongoing engagement initiatives with local schools and community groups to promote the sport and ways to look after the marine environment.

Richard Dove, Managing Director of BoatLife Events said, “We are really excited to be launching our new fishing championship and can’t wait for the first stage in Conwy. Angling is a fast-growing sport and we are looking to deliver a fast-paced and exciting competition for brands and Privateers to enter around the country.”
