Nimbus Group to outsource aluminium boat production
Sweden’s Nimbus Group is consolidating its manufacturing of aluminium boats to an external producer in Finland. The group says this decision is part of a previously ongoing consolidation that will ultimately result in Nimbus Group manufacturing all its aluminium boats in one single facility.
The group says the Finnish external producer is already the manufacturer of Nimbus Group’s Falcon brand of aluminium boats and also makes the absolute majority of Alukin’s boats. Furthermore, aluminium boats are being manufactured under other brands at the facility.
Owing to the facility’s experience in manufacturing aluminium boats as well as its larger volumes and lower cost levels, outsourcing manufacturing to the facility is said to offer greater efficiency for Nimbus Group.
To ensure a high degree of flexibility, Nimbus Group aims to outsource more than half of its total production to external manufacturers.
This decision would involve a relocation of the remaining 20 per cent of the production of Alukin brand boats at the facility in Norrtälje, Sweden. The decision is subject to customary negotiations with the trade unions, and some ten individuals in total may be affected.
Nimbus was founded in 1968 when the production of leisure powerboats under the brand Nimbus started. Since then, a number of brands have been added to the portfolio of what today is the Nimbus Group. These brands include Alukin, Aquador, Bella, Falcon, Flipper, Nimbus and Paragon Yachts.
