Speedboat smashes into packed pontoon in Monaco
Footage has emerged of a boat smashing into a pontoon at speed during the Monaco Grand Prix qualifying races.
The footage, circulating on social media, shows the unmanned powerboat speeding through the harbour in Monaco, before veering in between a small dinghy and a berthed superyacht full of people.
Malko Marchio, a captain who saw the incident from his vessel, told Formula One photographer Kay Illman that the speedboat came full speed around the corner and careered onto the dock. He said the outboards were still in full throttle when the boat launched up onto the dock, indicating a kill cord was unlikely to have been worn.
Moments before impact two people are seen walking on the jetty but they managed to spot the speeding vessel and jumped out of the way to avoid being hit.
Witnesses say several boats were damaged but miraculously no one was injured in the crash.
The video of the incident has since gone viral.
