Technical Marine Supplies’ summer product workshops unlock marine knowledge
In a bid to foster knowledge sharing in the industry, provide insight and hands-on experiences for attendees, Technical Marine Supplies (TMS) has instigated a series of summer product workshops taking place in a variety of marine manufacturers.
The first workshop was at Marlow Ropes factory. Delegates witnessed the intricate production stages of various ropes, culminating in a dramatic demonstration where a custom Dyneema rope was tested to its breaking point. The rope finally snapped at an astounding 37 tons, showcasing the strength and resilience of Marlow’s products.
“I feel that empowering our customers with the knowledge of the product is hugely important, as it allows our customer to recommend the correct solution to their clients. Sharing our belief that our products are simply the best quality the industry can offer will hopefully offer long term positivity for TMS and the plethora of products we source,” says Nick Cook of TMS (which stocks a huge amount of brands). “Shared knowledge empowers our customers to offer the correct solution, and showcasing UK manufacturing is key too.”
A second visit took place to Spinlock’s new facility, where the entire product range is manufactured in the UK. The tour provided an in-depth look at Spinlock’s advanced production techniques and meticulous attention to detail.
“A highlight of the day was witnessing Spinlock’s rigorous product testing, where loads of over 2 tons were put through their range of clutches and jammers. These demonstrations underscored the robustness and reliability of Spinlock’s products, leaving attendees thoroughly impressed,” says Cook.
The idea of industry workshop days started in 2023. They were designed for riggers, but Cook says he’s seeing demand from other customers, plus other manufacturers are seeing the huge benefit in offering knowledge workshops. The first workshop was trialled at Seldén and the latest series is open to anyone in the trade – whether they engage with TMS, or not, on a day-to-day basis.
“It was great to see our network of professional riggers coming together, and embracing UK manufacturing” says Cook. “We look forward to hosting more of our workshops, with the next one being held at the Seldén Mast factory in just a few weeks.”
More information about upcoming days is available from Nick Cook with the expected programme being: September: Seldén – deck hardware and demystifying SEL-Bus. Aimed at refit and repair yards. October: All things electrical, covering Simarrine, EGIS, Vesscomm & Zeus. December: Seldén technical retailer training.
