Vendée Globe: Nicolas Lunven sets new 24-hour distance record
Nicolas Lunven, skipper of Holcim-PRB, has achieved a significant milestone in his debut Vendée Globe race by breaking the 24-hour solo sailing distance record.
On the second day of the non-stop global solo race, Lunven opted for a more westerly route than the rest of the fleet, covering a record-breaking 546.60 nautical miles, equivalent to 1,012.30 km, in a 24-hour period.
The Holcim-PRB boat previously set the crewed 24-hour distance record during the fifth leg of The Ocean Race in 2023, covering 640.48 nautical miles at an average speed of 26.68 knots.
With this new solo record, Lunven, known as an exceptional navigator and sailor, has surpassed the previous record of 540 nautical miles set by Thomas Ruyant in the Retour à la Base event.
This record is pending official certification by the World Sailing Speed Record Council (WSSRC).
