A fire broke out this morning (7 August) at a chemical warehouse at Sirena Marine’s facility in Bursa, north-west Turkey.

It’s understood the incident started at around 7.30am local time, after eyewitnesses reported seeing smoke rising from the factory.

Turkish boatbuilder Sirena Marine has confirmed that all workers were swiftly evacuated, and fire crews were immediately dispatched to the scene.

Video taken at the scene, below, shows fire crews battling plumes of thick, dark smoke and tall flames.

No serious injuries have been reported, although local news outlet Bursada Bugün reports one person was taken to hospital suffering from smoke inhalation. The fire was brought under control after four hours. It’s understood no boats have been damaged, although serious damage was done to two warehouses.

Bursada Bugün reports that the fire started at the chemical and GRP section of the warehouse, with fire crews working to stop the flames spreading into other areas of the factory.

The news comes months after Sirena expanded its yacht production facilities with new waterside building halls in the shipbuilding centre of Yalova, near Istanbul. The boatbuilder says it intends to concentrate production of Sirena’s Steel 42 superyacht there.
