Vision Marine files two patents in one week
Electric propulsion company, Vision Marine Technologies, filed a patent for its communication cryptographic system technology, integral to the E-Motion Electric Powertrain components on 24 April.
The company announced the filing of a second patent application for its innovative method and apparatus for controlling the cooling water system of an electric marine vessel on 1 May.
Communication cryptographic system technology
The E-Motion Powertrain’s design features components that operate as a decentralised network, each performing its functions while interacting intelligently with others. The encrypted communication protocol is designed to ensure that these interactions remain secure and impenetrable to external interference, using a customised level of advanced encryption standard (AES). The aim of this unique feature is to enhance security for the user improving the conformity of all system components, mitigating risks of malfunctions.
“Our commitment to innovation extends beyond performance enhancements to include significant advancements in security and integrity of our systems,” said Alexandre Mongeon, CEO of Vision Marine Technologies. “The System Communication Encryption is designed to not only protect our technology from unauthorised modifications but also to ensure the reliability and adaptive behavior of our E-Motion Powertrain across all operating conditions.”
The integration of this advanced encryption technology into the powertrain’s computing framework is a critical component of the company’s strategy to lead the industry not only in performance but also in technological system integration and deployment. This technological approach aims to protect the proprietary technology of the E-Motion Powertrain while also safeguarding the data and operational parameters from potential external tampering or breach threats and is a key component of high- technology electric powertrain user enjoyment.
“Once we secure this patent, it will mark a pivotal moment for our industry, establishing a new benchmark for the secure operation of advanced marine propulsion systems in an increasingly digital world,” remarked Xavier Montagne, chief technology officer at Vision Marine Technologies. “It is imperative to highlight the crucial role security plays in driving the widespread adoption of high-power electric marine propulsion systems.”
This patent application highlights the paramount importance of security, not only in communication but also in safeguarding the integrity of all components and ensuring the safety of users. The company believes that these factors are critical for any players looking to enter or advance in the high-voltage electric powertrain technology field, underscoring the necessity of robust security measures in this rapidly evolving industry.
Cooling efficiency in electric boats
The second patent application addresses the unique challenges of designing and operating electric propulsion systems in marine environments.
The patent relates to the company’s novel cooling water system for electric boats. This development is aimed at enhancing the performance and safety of electric vessel propulsion across various conditions.
“Cooling efficiency stems from tailored mechanical equipment configurations and works in tandem with enhanced software control,” added Xavier Montagne, chief technology officer at Vision Marine Technologies. “Our deep understanding and extensive time on the water in hot weather conditions provide Vision Marine’s team with an edge, and this patent application embodies the cooling efficiency that the test time data provide us.”
According to Vision Marine, cooling electric motors presents a significant challenge in electric propulsion systems – a challenge we approach head on with the E-Motion Powertrain.
This innovative cooling approach is highly effective exemplifying how Vision Marine confronts key technical hurdles to deliver efficient and high-performing electric outboards.
“Vision Marine’s E-Motion System stands out for its exceptional battery cooling system and motor, delivering outstanding performance and security. These technological advancements have firmly established Vision as a leader in the high-power outboard motor segment,” says Mongeon. “By focusing on technological innovation, Vision has strategically positioned itself in the high-power outboard motor segment. The E-Motion System’s impressive performance and power are a direct result of its advanced battery cooling system and motor, setting Vision apart in the industry.”
This strategic development is part of Vision Marine Technologies’ ongoing efforts to lead the electric boating industry through innovative, efficient, and sustainable solutions. With this patent application, the company says it is continuing to demonstrate its leadership and secure key critical components necessary in electric marine propulsion technology.
The company says it looks forward to further developing and commercialising this patent-pending technology to benefit its customers and the marine industry as a whole.
