IBEX is going ahead as planned on 1-3 October 2024. The news comes after Hurricane Helene made landfall and devastated last swathes of land, with at least 64 people reported dead so far, millions left homeless and severe power cuts.

But according to organisers, the Tampa Convention Center did not sustain significant damage from the hurricane and is open for business.

‘The city is continuing to do storm cleanup, but the situation is stable. The downtown hotels are also open. There have been no schedule changes for IBEX next week,’ says the statement.

‘While the IBEX team looks forward to welcoming the marine industry back to Tampa, our thoughts are with all those in the region who were severely impacted by the storm. Safe travels and see you soon,’ it concludes. Just days ago, organisers were bracing themselves for the worst, thinking about when the show was cancelled in 2022 after Hurricane Ian caused chaos.

The aftermath includes clearing up boats which have become untethered and found new berths.

Gulfport Marina footage shows damage to boats after Helene

Gulfport Marina prepared and warned boat owners of the likely dangers, urging them not to stay on their boats. The team made sure all boats were secure and that there were no hazards.

But according to WESH 2 News, water rushed up and out of a boat ramp in the marina. Water was pushed out of the car park and into the street and an hour later the entire area was underwater.

A man and his dog were rescued during Hurricane Helene after his 36-ft sailboat became disabled and started taking on water approximately 25 miles off Sanibel Island.
